Being an 80s kid, raised on a farm in the middle of the country, I found the gothic culture through books and music. There wasn’t a lot out there for a kid that never felt like she belonged until I read Sandman by Neil Gaiman and heard The Cure for the first time on Casey Kasem’s top 40 hits. I finally felt as though I had a place to call my own. Clique, I know, but that does not make any of it less true. Through the gothic culture I have found an acceptance, a family, people that say, “No way! Me too,” and that is a great feeling.
We are the outsiders, the poets, the writers, the lovers of the night. There is a love and unity within the gothic community like none other I have seen. And I wanted this space to be one that mirrored that community.
Yes, I am a gothic horror writer, and no I have yet to published anything, however, there is never a better time to unite people than during a storm, and as the storms of life rage around us, I want to say… You belong. You have a place of connection.
Goths unite.
This world needs us to fill it with love again.
